The cross stitch uses superb color renditions to achieve this fabulous shading effect. Each of us has our own, personal approach to the final finished appearance, and if you wish to add more detail, half stitches can be stitched to areas you think need shading. This design doesn't have to be stitched following the oval look, it can be shaded out in each corner to save on framing costs...
